Bubba Watson is the next huge fan favorite, but everyone can learn something from how he plays the game.

The leading driver on the PGA Tour at 320 yards per swing.  That is an average driving distance that is taken on only a couple holes during a tournament.  His realistic driving average is much higher on the grip and rip holes.  His longest drive in the stat book this year is 398 yards.   This guy has taken the tour by storm and has the TV commentators calling his game "Bubba Ball" which to me is the way to play the game.  If we could his mental approach in our game, we would  free swing it more often, hit more fairways with increased distances,  and automatically inflate the mind and breed confidence.

The bottom line,  play Ball and just have fun.   The scores will come.

PS.  Don't forget to practice the short game.  When you almost drive a green in one and can't chip it on the surface within 20 feet of the hole....  Anyway I won't finish the story,  but kick in birdies are a lot more fun than par or bogies.

Ferocious swinging Bubba Watson was the third biggest story of the beginning of the 2006 PGA Tour season, next to David Toms's impressive victory and The Golf Channel's coup in securing exclusive cable rights to PGA play in 2007. Besides being mentioned by The Golf Blog, how do you know you've generated some buzz in the golf world? Well, you get a whole article devoted to you by Golf World's Tim Rosaforte, who was awarded The Best Golf Beat writer by TGB for 2006.

As usual, Rosaforte's article's great (see here). Here's a flavor:

"At the Sony, four of his drives in the final round traveled over 360 yards. At the 12th, he was two yards shy of breaking the 400-yard barrier. The scary thing: He only missed three fairways in the final round, shot 65 and finished fourth.

"Watson is more than a circus act experiencing his 15 minutes. He is the reason why Tiger Woods went to graphite and why Mickelson was experimenting with a 47-inch shaft this off-season. Watson is the future. He is 6-foot-3, 180 pounds of elasticity, and he didn't appear the least bit nervous on the weekend, finishing with an eagle on Sunday for a check of $244,800 that represented job security
